Skírnir is a first-prize dark bay son of the famous first-prize stallion, Kveikur frá Miđsitja, and the well-known bay mare, Jörp frá Vaynsleysu. He is also the brother of the famous first-prize mare, Dagrun frá Skjólbrekku, on his mother’s side.
Standing just over 14 hands, he is well above the average size of an Icelandic horse while not being too large. Skírnir’s neck and withers are truly impressive and combined with his extremely high natural movements give him the fluidity of a dancer. Unlike many first-prize stallions, Skírnir has very level gaits. His tölt and gallop scored an amazing 9.0 in evaluations, and his pace and trot are also top-notch.
Skírnir’s temperament is unrivalled for a stallion. He can be ridden with mares in heat and can be led with ease by the beard through a field of mares and geldings. Like all Icelandics, he is very curious. He is solid as a rock both on the ground and under the saddle.
Skírnir frá Skjólbrekku scored an astounding 8.54 overall for riding qualities making him one of the highest evaluated Icelandic horses imported to the United States.
All of his foals have carried his traits and have been easy to train and work around.
